Where to Buy Wholesale in Bangkok: Platinum, Pratunam, Bobae and Sampeng for Resellers

Which Bangkok wholesale market sells what?

Pratunam is the clothing district of Bangkok. Here you will find Platinum Fashion Mall, Krung Thong Plaza and many street stalls on Soi Petchaburi. For accessories, toys, bags and small goods head to Sampeng, near Chinatown. Chatuchak is mostly known for its weekend market but on Friday night there is a wholesale session. There is also a separate clothing market in Bobae which has no official source.

The Shopping Mall is classified as a large wholesale and retail shopping mall for modern fashionable apparels with more than 2,500 shops offering men's wear, women's wear, bags, leather products, shoes, accessories, and comprehensive facilities and utilities.

Krung Thong Plaza is across the road from Platinum Fashion Mall. Its own website says it is the largest plus size clothing wholesale center in Thailand with over 400 shops, most of them are manufacturers themselves. For re-sellers it is very convenient to work with a manufacturer as they can repeat your order.

Is there a minimum order for the wholesale price?

No mall publishes a minimum order for wholesale pricing. Krung Thong Plaza has both wholesale and retail options. The 3 piece rule in travel guides is not written anywhere official. Each stall sets their own price breaks.

If you buy 1 the price is higher, if you buy more the price drops. Each seller has different steps. Ask them how much for 1, how much for 6, for 12, before choosing. The same stall can sell singles at the front and cartons from the back.

What time should a reseller go?

Early is best! Platinum 09.00 to 20.00. Krung Thong Plaza 8 AM to 6 PM. Tourism Authority of Thailand: Pratunam street market 8.00 to 15.00, morning market from 5.00 in front of Baiyoke Towers, in a listing from January 2020.

Furthermore, there is also Pratunam Morning Market 5.00 am where vendors come together to set up the stores in front of Baiyoke Towers to sell products at the lower price from the normal price.

Sampeng keeps 2 shifts, says the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration: 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM daytime and 11.00 PM to 6.00 AM at night. Closed only for Songkran. For Bobae and Chatuchak please phone or check on the day, as they change frequently: Bobae publishes no hours and the Chatuchak Friday wholesale has 2 different schedules on 2 official-looking pages.

How does a buying day in Pratunam work?

Pratunam is very walkable. Platinum and Krung Thong Plaza face each other on Petchaburi Road. Street stalls start around soi Petchaburi 21. A buying day runs from mall opening until mid afternoon. Bring cash, a list of stalls and a plan for where bags will go after the market.

Cash is King! The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration says to bring cash for smaller vendors. Bargaining is expected at many markets. The Platinum directory lists 2 currency exchange desks inside, Superrich and K-Bank, and the information counter on the 1st floor, Zone 2.

You can bring as much as you want, but leaving or entering Thailand you must declare foreign currency over 15,000 USD or equivalent, or Thai currency over 450,000 THB. At each stall write down the shop number, the item and colour codes, and the price per piece at the quantity bought. Buying from 15 stalls in the morning can be very confusing! You won’t know which store sold what when the boxes are packed. Write everything down as you go and take photos for reference.

What receipt should a reseller ask for, and does VAT come back?

Ask each shop for a tax invoice. Only VAT registered shops can issue one, and only those in the VAT Refund For Tourists scheme count for a refund. Stock sent via courier doesn’t qualify. This is built specifically for goods travelers carry out by air.

The Revenue Department sets the conditions: The shop displays the VAT REFUND FOR TOURISTS sign. At least 2,000 baht including VAT per day per store. The goods leave with the traveller within 60 days of purchase.

Goods must take out of Thailand with the traveler within 60 days from the date of purchase.

If you send the goods instead of taking them yourself the refund rules do not fit. Above 20,000 Baht total, the goods, the P.P.10 forms and the original tax invoices are shown to a Customs officer before check-in. The revenue department may refuse your VAT refund if you did not take the goods out of Thailand on the departure date, so a reseller who ships should contact the Thai revenue department first, on 1161.

Most stalls give no tax invoice. VAT registration is required above 1.8 million baht turnover a year. A tax invoice must say tax invoice, shop name, address, tax number, in Thai language and Thai currency. A handwritten stall receipt is a record of the price paid, this is what the courier needs to declare the value.

Can the mall ship the stock?

Platinum Fashion Mall lists no shipping counter. Krung Thong Plaza has a KEX delivery service on floor 2, room 2070-72, for any order size, without saying if it ships abroad. At Chatuchak couriers such as DHL operate.

The reseller provides a correct description, quantity, and value. The notes taken at each stall are where that comes from.

There are some things you should not do: send goods Thai Customs prohibits (counterfeit trademark goods, so a carton of branded copies is refused before leaving), forget that a reseller who also sells to the USA has different rules above 2,500 USD.
