Shipping Cost From Thailand to the USA: Garments, Car Parts and Plants, Duty Included

Three parcels on a Bangkok courier counter bound for the USA: a garment box, a boxed car brake part and a bare-root plant in sphagnum moss, beside a scale

A 2 kg parcel from Thailand to the USA costs 1,474 Thai Baht on Dragon Courier's Standard tier, duty and tax included, on the price list of 3 August 2026. Half a kilo starts at 532 THB on the e-commerce tier and a 5 kg box is 2,729 THB on Standard. Live plants run on a separate list, from 1,458 THB at 0.5 kg. The number quoted in Bangkok is the number paid, and the person receiving the box in the USA pays nothing on arrival.

How much does it cost to ship from Thailand to the USA?

Shipping from Thailand to the USA costs from 342 THB for a 0.1 kg e-commerce parcel to 8,157 THB for 20 kg on Standard, duty and tax included. The price is set on weight and dimension, with no remote area surcharge and no volume discount.

General price list of 3 August 2026, in Thai Baht, duty and tax included. Between the weights shown the list moves in 100 gram steps, so a 1.6 kg box on Standard is 1,292 THB and a 2 kg box is 1,474 THB. The e-commerce tier is listed up to 8 kg. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico sit on their own column: 1,783 THB at 0.5 kg, 3,783 THB at 2 kg, 6,870 THB at 5 kg. Over 30 kg per box, the office quotes by phone.

A box is billed on whichever is greater, the weight on the scale or the volumetric weight, length by width by height in centimetres divided by 5,000. A loose carton of folded shirts often prices on volume rather than on the scale, and a tighter box is the one thing the sender controls. The tailor price list of the same date carries the same Standard and Express numbers for the USA.

What is inside the price, and what is not

The price contains transport to the door, customs clearance, the duty on the goods and the processing fee US Customs and Border Protection charges on the entry. Dragon Courier files the entry itself and pays customs itself, so no bill follows the parcel.

The fee amounts are set in 19 CFR 24.23 as adjusted for fiscal year 2026 (CBP Dec. 25-10, 90 FR 34665). An informal entry, the normal case for a parcel under 2,500 dollars, pays a flat 2.69 dollars when filed electronically instead of the percentage. Insurance is required on every shipment and covers loss, at a declared value the sender chooses, from zero baht upwards. Damage is not covered, and parcels on the e-commerce tier cannot be insured. How the duty and the fee are worked out line by line is in the guide on what shipping from Thailand costs with tax included.

Why every parcel to the USA now carries duty

Every courier parcel to the USA carries duty because the 800 dollar duty-free allowance was suspended on 29 August 2025 for shipments arriving by any route other than the postal network. The suspension is written into the customs regulation itself.

"The exemption provided in paragraph (a) of this section is suspended for merchandise arriving via all modes other than through the international postal network until such time as CBP determines that the application of the exemption is no longer inconsistent with the purpose of 19 U.S.C. 1321(a), no longer jeopardizes the revenue, and no longer facilitates unlawful importations."

Source: 19 CFR 10.151(b), eCFR, current as of 26 August 2026.

Dragon Courier moves every box by air courier, so every box falls inside the suspension. Since 28 February 2026 the duty is calculated one way only, the declared value multiplied by the tariff rate for the product's HTS code, and any additional duty the United States applies by country of origin at the time of entry sits on the same value. Dragon Courier works all of it into the quote before the box leaves Thailand.

Shipping garments and tailored clothing to the USA: what it costs

A tailored suit or a box of garments to the USA costs the weight price on the table above: a 2 kg suit on Standard is 1,474 THB with the duty inside. Sent duty unpaid, the same suit reaches the customer with a customs bill at the rate for its fabric.

Clothing rates in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule follow the fibre and the cut. Rates below are the general column, the one that applies to goods of Thai origin, consulted on hts.usitc.gov on 8 September 2026.

A wool suit declared at 400 dollars carries 70 dollars of duty at 17.5 percent before the processing fee and the courier's charge for advancing it. On Dragon Courier's price that 70 dollars is already inside the 1,474 THB. Every garment also needs a fibre content label under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act, 16 CFR 303, naming each fibre of 5 percent or more by weight in order of predominance, and a country of origin mark. Bangkok tailors send the finished suit with the shop's invoice and the customer's address; Dragon Courier collects from the shop free of charge in Bangkok, Pattaya and Chiang Mai. What customs asks for, market by market, is in the guide on shipping clothes from Thailand, and the tailor service is on the tailoring shipping page.

Shipping car and motorcycle parts to the USA: what it costs

A box of car parts to the USA costs the same weight price as any other parcel: 5 kg of brake parts is 2,729 THB on Standard, duty and tax included. The duty inside that number is higher than for most goods, because automobile parts carry a second tariff on top of the ordinary rate.

Ordinary rates on parts are low: brakes and servo-brakes for other vehicles under 8708.30.50, ignition coils under 8511.30.00, starter motors under 8511.40.00 and aluminium cylinder heads under 8409.91.30 all sit at 2.5 percent in the general column. Passenger car tyres under 4011.10.10 are 4 percent and starter batteries under 8507.10.00 are 3.5 percent. Section 232 then adds a flat 25 percent on the automobile parts listed in Annex I of Proclamation 10908, 130 tariff lines covering engines and engine parts, transmissions and powertrain parts, electrical components and parts of passenger vehicles and light trucks.

"The above ad valorem tariff is in addition to any other duties, fees, exactions, and charges applicable to such imported automobiles and certain automobile parts articles."

Source: Proclamation 10908, Adjusting Imports of Automobiles and Automobile Parts Into the United States, 90 FR 14705, 3 April 2025.

So 150 dollars of brake parts pay 3.75 dollars at 2.5 percent and 37.50 dollars at 25 percent, 41.25 dollars in all, plus the processing fee, before a duty-unpaid parcel is released. Motorcycle parts under heading 8714 are not on the Annex I list, but 8714.10.00 was added to the steel and aluminium derivative list on 19 August 2025 (90 FR 40326), where a 50 percent duty applies to the metal content. A shipment of parts worth more than 2,500 dollars moves from an informal to a formal entry under 19 CFR 143.21, with the percentage fee instead of the flat one. Dragon Courier classifies the part, calculates the layers and quotes one number; the invoice and the paperwork are covered in the guide on customs declaration and the commercial invoice.

Shipping live plants to the USA: what it costs

Live plants to the USA run on a separate price list, the Dragon Plant Export Rate of 10 June 2026, delivered duty paid and inclusive of the fuel surcharge. The USA is zone A on that list, with door-to-door transit of 2 to 5 working days.

Above 30 kg the price is charged per kilo, at 565 THB per kg from 30.1 to 70 kg and falling to 545 THB per kg on the largest consignments. An oversize surcharge of 2,500 THB applies where the longest side exceeds 121 cm or where length plus girth exceeds 266 cm, and an overweight surcharge of 4,500 THB applies to any box between 30 and 65 kg. The phytosanitary certificate and the CITES paperwork are free of charge on the USA route, and Dragon Courier holds its own import permit for each market and runs an Importer of Record service, so the buyer in the USA needs no permit of their own. Plants ship bare-root with new sphagnum moss, under door-to-door temperature control, with a declared value limit of 1,000 dollars per shipment. Plant shipments carry no insurance: loss is compensated at 100 THB per kilo, to a maximum of 500 THB per air waybill, and claims for the condition or appearance of a plant are not accepted. The service is described on the plant export page, and the rules for the USA and other markets are in the guide on importing plants from Thailand by country.

E-commerce, Standard or Express: which tier to choose

The three tiers differ in the carrier on the last leg and in the price, not in who pays customs. On every tier Dragon Courier runs its own service to the USA, clears customs itself, then hands the parcel to a US carrier for delivery.

The e-commerce tier, delivered by UniUni, is the cheapest option on parcels up to 8 kg and cannot be insured. The Standard tier, delivered by UPS, carries insurance and is the tier the tailor list is built on. Express is the fastest of the three. Door-to-door time on the USA route is around 5 to 8 days. Signatures are not taken on delivery, because a signature is what most often delays a parcel; a driver who finds nobody home may leave the box at a pick-up point or retry the next day. Door-to-door tracking is issued on export day and can be shared with the receiver. The carriers and the route are compared in the guide on shipping from Thailand to the USA, and the current rates by weight are on the Thailand to USA shipping page.

How to get the exact price for your box

The contents of the box and the receiver's name, address and contact number are enough for a quote. No account is required to start. Dragon Courier replies on WhatsApp or LINE with the number for that shipment, in Thai Baht, with the duty inside.

Drop-off runs until 17:00, Monday to Saturday, at the Bangkok office on Sukhumvit Soi 4 or the Chiang Mai office on Viangbua Road, and a pickup can be arranged in Bangkok and Pattaya for a date and time that suits. Payment is cash or bank transfer, before export. Once a shipment has been exported the address cannot be changed, so delivery details get checked before the box moves. Refund and cancellation limits are set out in the refund and cancellation policy.

Frequently asked questions

More of them, on every service, are on the FAQ page.

Is US import duty included in Dragon Courier's price?

Yes. The price quoted in Thailand contains the transport to the door, the customs duty at the tariff rate for the product and the CBP processing fee on the entry. Dragon Courier files the entry and pays customs itself, so the receiver in the USA pays nothing on delivery.

How much does it cost to ship 1 kg from Thailand to the USA?

843 THB on the e-commerce tier, 942 THB on Standard and 1,260 THB on Express, duty and tax included, on the price list of 3 August 2026. A 1 kg box of live plants is 1,591 THB on the separate plant list, phytosanitary certificate and CITES paperwork included.

What is the cheapest way to ship from Thailand to the USA?

The e-commerce tier, delivered by UniUni, from 342 THB at 0.1 kg and 532 THB at 0.5 kg, duty and tax included. It is listed up to 8 kg and cannot be insured. Standard, delivered by UPS, adds insurance for 92 THB more at 0.5 kg.

Why does a tailored suit pay more duty than a cotton dress?

Because US duty follows the HTS code of the garment, which turns on fibre and cut. A worsted wool suit is 17.5 percent, a cotton dress 8.4 percent and a silk blouse 6.9 percent. Dragon Courier classifies the garment and prices the duty into the quote, so the difference never reaches the customer.

Are car parts more expensive to send than clothes?

The transport price is the same per kilo, so 5 kg is 2,729 THB on Standard either way. The duty inside it is higher, because parts on the Section 232 list pay 25 percent on top of the 2.5 percent ordinary rate. On a duty inclusive quote that difference is already counted.
